How Do You Define Leadership?
Hello there! The Productivity Professor is feeling a little curious this morning.
From conversations I’ve had over the years, leadership means different things to different people, but I did notice some overarching themes about what a leader is and what a leader isn’t. What about you?
- Do you believe perception is reality?
- Do you believe leaders are born, not made?
- Or do you believe everyone has the potential to be a leader?
- What are some characteristics of a great leader?
- I invite you to post your thoughts below.
Another invitation I want to extend is reserving July 14th, 7pm EDT for

# Do you believe perception is reality? Although I don’t believe it always reality, I believe it can be made into reality so long as the perception has logic and drive behind it.
# Do you believe leaders are born, not made? I think nearly everyone is born to be a leader, some realize it early in life, some later, and some, sadly, never realize their ability to lead.
# Do you believe everyone has the potential to be a leader? I think NEARLY everyone has the ability to lead. Maybe not in a sense of leading an entire company, but leadership in some form. Too many have the fear of leading. The fear being ridiculed or questioned, so they take the backseat and let others lead them, often times with themselves becoming the critic.
# What are some characteristics of a great leader? A good leader should not be afraid to associate with all of whom he or she leads. They should be able to let those under them flourish without the feeling that their leadership is threatened. They should not guide through fear but through encouragement and motivation. They should let those under them work in the manner that fits them best without trying to force them into some boxed guidelines that aren’t necessarily conducive to their environment, because everyone works better in a different form.

Great question… no easy answers.
However, after 25+ years in and around business consulting, I would suggest that leadership is big on results. Desired results. Results that permit duplication.
